CHESAPEAKE INNOVATION CENTER EXPANDS FACILITIES
Homeland Security Incubator Doubles in Size
ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 8, 2004) - The Chesapeake Innovation Center
(CIC), the nation’s first homeland
security focused business incubator, announced today it will expand
its facilities. Construction is underway to add 12,290 square feet
of space to the CIC facility at 175 Admiral Cochrane Drive in Annapolis,
doubling
the size of the technology incubator to 24,260 square feet. The
additional space will come online in March 2004 and will allow
space for
up to ten
additional emerging technology companies seeking to provide products
and services to the homeland security marketplace. The new space
will also allow
for a 2,000 square foot data center to service the data communications
needs of the CIC client companies.
The CIC is a program of the Anne Arundel
Economic Development Corporation
(AAEDC). CIC partners include the National Security Agency, Nokia
Innovent, ARINC, Piper Rudnick, LLP, and Whiteford Taylor and Preston,
LLP. Currently,
the CIC houses eight client companies and is filled to capacity
just three months after its official October 9th Grand Opening.
“The expansion demonstrates the strong demand for CIC’s services
and its rapid success in building value for its client companies and the
homeland
security sector, ” said AAEDC President and CEO Bill Badger.
“We help great new companies realize their potential,” said
John Elstner, the Executive Director of the CIC. “Our clients have
seen the advantages offered by the CIC program,” he continued, “including
a focused network of contacts from federal and state government, defense contractors,
and the investment community. This expansion will allow us to team up with
more of the cutting-edge companies that are building technologies to keep
our country
safe and prosperous in the future.”
All entrepreneurs are encouraged to
apply for a business presence at CIC, particularly if their focus is in the
security, information technology, or communications
sectors. Interested parties can find additional information at www.cic-tech.org
or by contacting John Elstner at jelstner@cic-tech.org.
