CHESAPEAKE INNOVATION CENTER ADDS THREE NEW COMPANIES
Focus on Unique Solutions for Information Overload and Security Challenges
Annapolis, MD (January 31, 2005) – The Annapolis,
MD based Chesapeake Innovation enter, America’s first business accelerator
for the homeland and national security high technology sectors, has
added three new businesses to its growing portfolio:
- Harbinger Technologies Group, Inc. helps connect the dots in
a vital mission in the global war against terrorism –ensuring terrorists
cannot slip past U.S. security because of confusion over their names.
- Secure Cognition provides corporations and government agencies with
cutting-edge software developed by the National Security Agency (NSA) and
proven at critical national security locations.
- ORBID offers a sophisticated solution to safeguard everything from
confidential documents to designer watches.
“Such promising
companies reflect the CIC’s role as the ‘spark plug’ of
the growing informatics corridor centered in Anne Arundel County, home
of the National Security Agency,” said Janet S. Owens, Anne Arundel
County Executive. “Our county is steadily increasing its international
leadership in security informatics and information assurance high technology.”
“These products also respond to the specific demands of CIC partners
and their customers for solutions to pressing technology needs,” said
Bill Badger, President and CEO of the Anne Arundel Economic Development
Corporation. “By bringing together customers and solutions, we can
both enhance our nation’s
security and foster local economic development.”
“These new members reflect the increasing breadth and depth of the CIC
portfolio,” said John Elstner, CEO of the CIC. “We continue to look
for world-class technologies in the informatics and security spaces. Interested
companies are encouraged to apply online at (www.cic-tech.org),”
- Harbinger Technologies Group, Inc. (www.harbingertechnologiesgroup.com)
has developed a patent-pending solution for a fundamental and
complex problem in the war against terrorism – the transliteration
and spelling of foreign names. The problem is caused by the fact that names
with only one
spelling in their original language can be spelled many different
ways in English. For example, Harbinger has identified more than 400 English
variants
of the single Arabic name “Mohammed.” This exemplifies the problem
facing law enforcement and intelligence agencies — information
about the same terrorist may be filed unknowingly under many different names,
thus
preventing analysts from identifying critical connections. In
other cases, watch lists may be missing the specific English spelling used
by a suspected
terrorist on a passport or other document, allowing him to slip
past undetected. Harbinger’s software solves this problem for Arabic
and a range of other languages by allowing officials to search databases
for names and terms with
much greater accuracy and thoroughness, “connecting the dots” instantaneously.
The company and its team of seasoned intelligence professionals
also provide training and consulting services to address this and related
challenges.
- Secure Cognition Inc. offers software that allows network operations
personnel to see, understand and react to hugely complex network events in
real-time. This innovative capability creates high value for enterprise and
government customers who use the Internet as a business medium. Currently
there are no solutions available in the market that provide such real-time
actionable information to avoid major business disruptions. This “Network
Thermal Vistas” solution is based on Thermodynamic principles and was
designed and patented at the National Security Agency. It has been proven
during operations at some of the U.S. government’s most important national
security locations. The solution is significantly enhanced to meet commercial
market requirements and is now available to corporate and government customers.
There are three commercial deployments already underway. The company is working
on continued enhancements by integrating other point solutions.
- ORBID, (www.orbidcorp.com) which provides organizations with a
way to mark valuable physical and digital assets with unique
codes that cannot be read by unauthorized personnel so that
only those authorized have access.
This allows customers — from makers of luxury watches to creators
of sensitive digital documents — to limit liability and prevent
fraud, piracy, counterfeiting and diversion. For example, the
manufacturer of a medical
device could use ORBID codes – some small enough to be invisible —
to track its devices and ensure they are not misused, all without
revealing sensitive information to criminals or competitors.
ORBID’s
secure digital signature application helps customers simultaneously
authenticate users,
applications, and devices — thus securing access to proprietary
information. The company’s unique and proprietary methods, based on
advanced image recognition principles and chaos theory, can be
applied in two-dimensional,
three-dimensional, and digital images.
About the CIC: The Chesapeake Innovation Center is a
public-private partnership supported by the Anne Arundel Economic Development
Corporation (AAEDC) in partnership with the National Security Agency; ARINC;
Northrop Grumman; Piper Rudnick, LLP; Kelly FedSecure; Sturn Wagner Lombardo & Company,
and other leading organizations. Based in Annapolis, MD, it now serves
fifteen high technology companies with plans to increase that number in
the near future. The CIC helps companies achieve success by linking them
with leading government and corporate partners and providing them with
strategic business assistance, mentoring, market intelligence, flexible
office space and exposure to networks of potential investors, customers
and strategic partners.
