FOUR NEW COMPANIES ADMITTED TO CIC: HOMELAND SECURITY BUSINESS INCUBATOR RECRUITS LEADERS IN KEY TECHNOLOGY SECTORS
Annapolis, MD (May 6, 2004) - They help government agencies
share digital images at unprecedented speed; develop software
that allows the Coast Guard and Navy to build vessels far more
efficiently; improve the training of mission-critical intelligence
analysts;
and provide a better way for the military and first responders
to
locate and track moving people and equipment. They are the newest
group of clients at the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), the
nation's first business incubator for the homeland security high
technology sector.
"These companies are leaders in their fields and represent
some of the most exciting emerging technologies in the homeland
security
arena. We look forward to helping them achieve their business
objectives, which will enhance our nation's technological edge
while developing
the economy of Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland," said
John Elstner, CEO of the CIC.
The newly admitted companies, which
passed a stringent admissions process for entry into the
CIC, are:
Atlantec - a global software and consulting company
with offices in Annapolis, MD, and Hamburg, Germany. Atlantec
provides affordable
solutions for enterprises engaged in large-scale manufacturing
such as shipbuilding. These solutions enable companies
to integrate and
manage their business processes, as well as collaborate
with partners and suppliers. The company's initial market focus
is on shipyards,
design firms, and marine suppliers that provide vessels
to the Navy and Coast Guard. Atlantec has received several research
grants
from
the Office of Naval Research and the National Shipbuilding
Research Program.
AXS Technologies - an international
software developer that provides unprecedented image access
speed to those who store,
share
and
view digital imagery. AXS overcomes the limiting
factors in effective collaboration and dissemination of large
imagery and data sets
among
homeland security agencies and the Department of
Defense. Combining its ability to achieve super computer-like
performance from commodity
PCs, servers and storage with standard Internet and
network capabilities, AXS allows anyone, anywhere to view any
size image in seconds.
Cognitive Path Systems LLC
(CPS) - specialists in the development and production of
customized online and online-enhanced
delivered
dynamically adaptive training platforms and simulations.
The primary focus of CPS is supplying the company's
unique
and proprietary
training
methodologies and application tools to serve
mission-critical training needs within the U.S. defense, intelligence
and homeland security
industries.
Point2Point Technologies - designer
and developer of radio frequency (RF) based locating and tracking
products. Point2Point's
proprietary solutions are more efficient, easier to operate
and less expensive than any solutions available today. Unlike
other products, P2P's real-time location technology is ideal
for tracking
and locating highly mobile targets, such as humans. It requires
no fixed or permanent infrastructure, instead using portable
base units and tags. P2P technology can be quickly and easily
deployed,
works both indoors and outdoors, and performs well in inclement
weather, hostile environments -- such as smoke or sandstorms
--
and in difficult terrain.
The CIC is a public-private partnership
supported by the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation
(AAEDC) in partnership
with the National Security Agency, Innovent Nokia, ARINC, Piper
Rudnick, LLP, Whiteford Taylor and Preston, LLP, and Sturn Wagner
Lombardo & Company. It now serves twelve high technology companies
with plans to increase that number substantially in the near
future in response to strong demand for its services. The CIC
helps client
companies achieve success by providing them with strategic business
assistance, mentoring, market intelligence, flexible office space
and exposure to networks of potential investors, customers and
strategic partners.
The CIC is now accepting applications from
companies focused on the homeland security, information technology,
and/or communications
sectors. More information
