The Chesapeake Innovation Center Inks Partnership Deal with Boeing
ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 28, 2006) - - - Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is partnering with the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), America's first business accelerator for homeland and national security high technology. The partnership underscores the growing awareness of CIC's unique expertise as an outsourced technology scout.
Under the partnership, the CIC will identify innovative technologies of value to Boeing's government customers, to break ground into new commercial markets and/or for integration into Boeing's own enterprise. These technologies address communications, weapons and aircraft capabilities, intelligence and surveillance systems.
The relationship between Boeing and the CIC falls under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Mentor-Protégé program, which fosters partnering between large business prime contractors and small, disadvantaged firms to increase business opportunities through mutually beneficial relationships. The CIC is the first business incubator to participate with Boeing in the mentor-protégé program under DHS.
Laura Neuman, Interim Executive Director of the Chesapeake Innovation Center, stated, "Boeing is one of this country's largest defense contractors and an established industry leader and it's a great opportunity for the CIC to be selected as the company's first business accelerator protégé partner with DHS. There is a strong synergy between Boeing, the CIC and CIC member companies and we look forward to benefiting from Boeing's experience as a successful prime contractor and jointly pursuing opportunities in homeland security. We are honored to have this opportunity."
"We are pleased to formalize this partnership with the Chesapeake Innovation Center ” said Warren Kennedy, Business Development, Boeing Advanced Systems. “Under the direction of Technology Scouting Director Roger London, the CIC has built a remarkable track record in the homeland security space and we are looking forward to utilizing CIC to identify and screen innovative technologies matching our criteria.”
