CIC SPONSOR TAKES THE LEAD IN TRANSPORTATION SECURITY

Annapolis, MD (October 27, 2006) - - - Trident Global Partners (www.trident-global.com), a veteran-owned transportation consulting firm based at the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), and a sponsor of the Center since 2005, is taking the lead in an effort to provide the transportation industry with security solutions that create value.

Luke Ritter, the CEO of Trident Global, has recently co-authored a book that offers an exciting new approach to security in transportation. “Transportation security is arguably the dominant focus in the current push to secure the U.S. homeland,” said Ritter. “Both Trident Global and the Chesapeake Innovation Center specialize in that area.”

Securing Global Transportation Networks: A Total Security Management Approach (McGraw Hill, Oct 2006), offers the homeland security industry a promising approach to enterprise security called Total Security Management (TSM). From the book's Foreword by Tom Ridge , the first U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security:

“The development of Total Security Management [TSM] delivers a novel, powerful and insightful approach to transportation security. It is time to move beyond transportation security solutions that do not create value and instead embrace those that provide a real return on investment.”

“Striking the right balance between security and efficiency is a significant challenge faced by both public and private sector stakeholders in the global transportation industry,” said Laura Neuman, Interim Executive Director of the Chesapeake Innovation Center . “We at the CIC address this challenge by cultivating security solutions that can help firms manage risk and improve operational efficiency,” she continued.

“TSM is about managing security as a core business function,” said J. Michael Barrett, a security and counter-terrorism expert and one of the co-authors of the book. “All the governments in the world could not throw enough money at this problem to solve it.” The book points out that, since the private sector owns and operates as much as 90% of the critical transportation infrastructure that needs to be protected throughout the world, the solution must ultimately originate in the private sector.

Rosalyn Wilson, the third author and a well respected transportation economist, points out that, “The cumulative effect of the entire global transportation community making market-driven decisions to become more secure is what can solve this problem in the long run.”

“This important book is an example of the cutting edge ideas and technology being generated at the CIC,” said Aaron Greenfield, Chairman of the CIC Board of Directors. “We commend Luke Ritter and his associates for their work,” he added.
