Project Targeted to Navy's new Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)

ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 13, 2006) – Atlantec Enterprise Solutions (Atlantec), www.atlantec-es.com, a member company of the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), announced today that it has received a $900K SBIR Phase II award from the Office of Naval Research. In this project, called Common Parts Catalog, Part Design Class , Atlantec will work with Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) team members, Marinette Marine, Gibbs & Cox, DRS Technologies, and ShipConstructor. The LCS is a new navy ship designed to fight the war on terror.

In this project, Atlantec will build a design-collaboration application that will enable shipyards, vendors, ship designers, and subcontractors to download and/or exchange 3D model parts regardless of their respective CAD systems. Part Design Class will greatly reduce design time and rework, as well as provide flexibility to design and manufacture at different sites. The resulting products potentially offer millions of dollars in savings to the Navy.

Atlantec has offices in Annapolis , MD and Hamburg Germany . The company is made up of a group of experts in project oriented manufacturing, production engineering, and software development.

“We have developed an interoperability and collaboration middleware product called Topgallant®,” said Bryan J. Miller, President, and CEO of Atlantec. “The solution is uniquely designed for linking design (CAD) and production ( CAM ) systems. Topgallant® combines powerful data and graphical access capabilities with information and process management features that are required to manage complex engineering and production information requirements. Topgallant® is modular and can be tailored for specific industries. Our industry-specific approach dramatically reduces both implementation costs and project risks.”

“Atlantec is a great example of technology that helps homeland and national security products reach the market faster,” said Laura Neuman , the Interim Executive Director of the CIC. “Helping bridge the gap between innovation and homeland and national security customers is at the core of what CIC does.”

“We are delighted for Atlantec and the Navy. Topgallant® is an enabling technology that will help put the latest technology in the Navy warfighters hands in a shorter period of time,” adds Roger London , CIC Director of Tech Scouting.
