Next Century Corporation Sponsors Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC)
Organizations Team to Develop Systems that Get Information to Users Who Need It Most
Annapolis, MD (Dec. 6, 2004) – For people like
special operations troops and firefighters, access to reliable, updated,
and easily understood information can determine the difference between
success and failure — and life and death. Building sophisticated
technology to feed information to personnel operating under the world’s
most challenging conditions is the specialty of Laurel, Maryland’s
Next Century Corporation, the newest sustaining sponsor of the CIC.
“The success of our clients depends on our ability to integrate cutting-edge
technology into reliable systems that will work anywhere from America’s
most advanced command centers to Afghanistan’s most foreboding peaks,” said
Jim Long, Vice President of Next Century. “That means we must work
with entrepreneurs developing innovative solutions that will give
the users of our products the edge they need – and those entrepreneurs
are at the CIC.”
The systems under development by Next Century, called
Strategic Insight™ solutions,
provide end users such as military personnel, first responders, and
clinicians with real-time situational awareness and decision support. Strategic
Insight™ systems
process complex information and present it in displays that are easy
to use and understand. For example, the company produces a sophisticated
system
that Special Operations troops can use to detect electronic signals
from enemy forces. What makes the system so powerful is that troops can
wear
it while conducting their primary missions; the system is designed
to allow a commando to complete a combat operation while simultaneously
wearing
an antenna and receiving data from a computer.
“The best technology in the world does no good if it cannot be operated
effectively by end users. The Next Century team is unmatched at producing
systems that combine ease of use with mission effectiveness,” said
John Elstner, CEO of the CIC. “Plus, Next Century’s network
of contacts and extensive experience in growing successful technology
companies will benefit the CIC and the growing ‘Informatics Corridor’ of
advanced technology developers and users centered in Anne Arundel
County, Maryland.”
About the CIC: The CIC harnesses the power of
entrepreneurship to help our nation enhance its technological edge.
