STEVEN ROTH JOINS THE CHESAPEAKE INNOVATION CENTER AS ENTREPRENEUR IN RESIDENCE
ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 30, 2009) - - - Steven Roth will help coach Chesapeake Innovation Center emerging technology companies in his role as Entrepreneur in Residence. The Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC) is Anne Arundel County’s business accelerator for homeland and national security technology, bridging emerging technology with government buyers. Roth has committed his time and expertise on a volunteer basis to help advance entrepreneurship and innovation at the CIC.
“The Chesapeake Innovation Center’s mission to encourage County security technology growth is strengthened with the addition of an Entrepreneur in Residence,” said Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold. “I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Roth to the CIC team and I thank him for his commitment to advancing technology.”
As Entrepreneur in Residence, Roth will augment the services that the CIC provides, drawing on his life experience to help companies raise capital, win contracts and acquire customers. He will also participate in the selection process for the CIC TechBridge program, which connects CIC Partner organizations (Northrop Grumman, National Security Agency, ARINC, and Boeing) with cutting edge, innovative technology companies.
“Steven Roth has a wealth of experience in technology start-up companies,” said CIC Executive Director Sarah Djamshidi. “At the CIC, we believe in a hands-on approach in working with our member companies. Steve’s entrepreneurial success combined with his senior management experience in the high technology and government services industry will be an asset to the hands-on coaching and mentoring services offered at the CIC.”
Roth has specialized in government contracting, successfully launching and growing 10 technology companies over the past 30 years. Currently, Roth is Managing Partner of CM Equity, a private equity firm that invests in middle-market government IT services companies. Prior to joining CM Equity, Roth was CEO and Co-Founder of OGS, Inc., a provider of technical consulting and IT services, which he began in 2006. Prior to OGS, Roth was president of Wireless Facilities, Inc. Government Services, a diversified provider of systems engineering, technical consulting and information technology services. He was instrumental in growing Wireless Facilities from inception to an over $100 million company. Prior to this, Roth was Senior Vice President of Sales and marketing for Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software solutions. At Plateau Systems, Roth helped build the company and establish it as a leader in the eLearning marketplace, growing revenue to over $28 million in 2 years. Before this, Roth served as Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Riverbed Technologies, a wireless infrastructure company, which was successfully sold to Aether Systems for more than $1 billion.
Other key management positions that Roth has held include serving as an original member of the management team at Sun Microsystems, Inc., the leader in high performance computer workstations. During his tenure as VP of the Eastern Region, annual revenue for his area grew from $2 million to over $1 billion. Roth also served as VP of Federal Systems for Octel Communications Corporation, now part of Lucent Technologies. Roth is an Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Maryland Smith School of Business, and is a member of the AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) Board of Directors. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and accounting and has a Top Secret Security Clearance.
