TWO RESIDENT MEMBER COMPANIES GRADUATE FROM THE CHESAPEAKE INNOVATION CENTER
ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 27, 2007) - - - The Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC) today proudly announced the graduation of two Resident Member companies – PharmAthene, Inc. a leading developer of pharmaceutical products to counter chemical and biological weapons, (www.pharmathene.com) and Inclinix, Inc., an enrollment contract research organization (CRO) and provider of clinical trial recruitment solutions (www.inclinix.com). Both companies joined the CIC in 2003 when the incubator was launched and are moving to new, larger facilities within Anne Arundel County .
“PharmAthene and Inclinix exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit of the Anne Arundel County business community,” said County Executive John Leopold. “I congratulate them on their success and am very pleased that the Chesapeake Innovation Center
played an important role in helping each of these exciting companies evolve and grow.”
PharmAthene, established in March 2001, specializes in the development of effective medical countermeasures to a range of potential biological and chemical weapons. PharmAthene's executive team is made up of seasoned, talented pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals—each an expert in his or her respective field ranging from infectious diseases and genome science across the spectrum to pharmaceutical marketing and management. While a member of the CIC, PharmAthene grew from less than five to more than 35 employees in its Annapolis headquarters, and has been awarded up to $250 million in government contracts and grants and received approximately $65 million in venture capital and private equity financing. This thriving company will relocate to new office space at Park Place on West Street in Annapolis later this summer.
“We are grateful to Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation for supporting the Chesapeake Innovation Center ,” said David P. Wright President and Chief Executive Officer of PharmAthene. “The services and contacts provided by the CIC have been an invaluable resource for our company, particularly during our formative years. Since joining the CIC in 2003, PharmAthene has successfully grown from an organization of one to now more than 35 full time positions in Anne Arundel County , with additional offices in Canada .”
Inclinix, Inc. is the corporate name that reflects a 2006 merger between CIC Member company Realinterface Expert Systems (RESI) with Pharmatech Solutions, a clinical trial recruitment organization based out of North Carolina . Inclinix is an enrollment contract research organization and provides pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical-device organizations with a comprehensive yet flexible standard operating procedure for clinical trial enrollment success. “The merger allowed us the opportunity to embed our RESI technologies more deeply into the pharmaceutical marketplace and could not have happened without our connection to the CIC,” says Chris Sleat , former president of RESI and current chief technology officer at Inclinix. He continues: “Our involvement with the CIC ‘put us on the map' and has been an important part of our success, as we have continued to grow as an organization.” Inclinix will maintain a headquarters location in Wilmington , N.C. and will continue to grow its Maryland-based team in the same building that houses the CIC at 175 Admiral Cochrane Drive in Annapolis .
“The CIC congratulates both PharmAthene and Inclinix,” said Robert Hannon , President and CEO of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation and Executive Director of the CIC. “Their individual successes reflect the commitment of the CIC staff, Anne Arundel County , and the State of Maryland to support business acceleration through the Chesapeake Innovation Center .”
